Toxicological trivia, September 30, 2009: There is great variation in susceptibility among different animal species to castor seeds.There is not  data in the literature about the respective values in dogs and cats, but the lethality attributed to dogs is low because:
a) It is a hardy species;
b) There are few reports of poisoning;
c) Dogs do not chew or swallow the seeds whole.

Answer: c. This low lethality is attributed to dogs that seed is chewed or swallowed whole. Read in Spanish in the monograph: castor seeds / ricin
