Toxicological trivia from May 16, 2014: : in Trivia # 61, we talk about tea Payco toxicity, a common infusion used in Argentina. Chenopodium ambrosioides, commonly called epazote or paico in countries like Chile, is an aromatic perennial plant, used as a spice and as a medicinal plant in many other Latin American countries: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Paraguay, Peru, and south of USA. As well as in its native areas, it is grown in warm temperate to subtropical areas of Europe and the United States (Missouri, New England, Eastern United States), sometimes becoming an invasive weed.Also in Mexico where it is known as the Nahuatl name epazotl. It was used by: a) Aztecas; b) Chichimeca; c) Mixtecas.
