Trivia # 117: decline of vultures in South Asia

Toxicological trivia from February 08, 2010: the vulture East, a population of one of vultures  species, marked by a white collar, has dropped 99.9 percent in India since 1992, according to the newsletter of the Bombay Natural History (India). It is also in jeopardize the long-billed vulture: the existing copies have fallen by almost 97 percent over the same period of time. Experts attributed the rapid disappearance of this vultures to an anti-inflammatory medicine that is given to cattle and it can cause kidney failure in vultures that feed on the corpses. It is:
a) Mefenamic acid;
b) Indomethacin;
c) Diclofenac.
