Toxicological Trivia from March 12, 2010: "Chochos" (in  Spanish), Lupinus mutabilis Sweet, is an Andean legume, whose importance lies not only in the ability to fix nitrogen rooted to the ground but also for its high protein content (50) minerals and vitamins, useful to improve the nutrition of the population, however, the grain contains some substances that limit their direct use in food and feed. Among these substances are alkaloids, which give Lupinus:
a) A bitter taste and toxic nature;
b) A sour taste;
c) A dark unattractive colour.
