We had thought about titling this editorial, Is it China’s fault? because of  toothpastes contaminated with harmful ethyln glycol, toxic in pet foodtoys with lead… and now foods non apt for the human consumption. So one of recommended press articles of this month begins, questioning products exported by  China [See].  In a recent article we said: "If we consider the increasing number of chemicals that can produce toxic situations and their diversity of uses and processes, it is easy to understand that in the practice of  clinical toxicology,  new situations appear…" . We should now add "and  other situations which were considered forgotten, must be updated , such as the risk of being exposed to lead with the toys.  It seams to be evident the impact that China’s growing industry is having in many countries around the world  [See] That relationship between China’s need of a growing international market, and the standards of the local manufacture process and certificates, as well as enforcement mechanisms, may well be a challenge for both export and import partners. Controls showed to appear inefficients in the United States ; same thing happened in Spain; this author wanders about what would be happening in Latin American, weaker in terms of control resources. Recent dramatic examples, as it was the epidemic of ethylene glycol related diseases that took place in Nicaragua(2006) may support the concern. In "When the toys become ill", we encouraged  the enforcement authorities to consult with experts and to carry on deeper controls, before giving authorization for toys to be imported. In synthesis: the answer to the question Is it China’s fault? is another question: Is it local enforcement agencies ‘ fault?  Anyway, the news related with toxics were so many this month, that we changed the title for the one above. Since our bulletins started, it’s been not very often that we had to select between so many news. That’s why this time we have such a huge bulletin. Let’s hope it is of your interest.  Until the next number. JCP
