It can be found in day cares, hospitals and even portable restrooms.One brand name sanitizer boasts that 99.9 percent of germs are killed with just a small amount. The same active ingredient that kills disease-carrying germs, however, causes more health problems, if ingested.The FDA recommends using a hand sanitizer with 60 to 70 percent ethyl alcohol content, the same ingredient found in alcoholic beverages."When you compare the percentages," said Tammy Noble with the Iowa Poison Control Center, "there is much more alcohol in hand sanitizers."
