The world can download their "toxic ships" in Britain. (Nuestromar.03/02/09.) ‘Britain is on its way to become a place of disposal for "toxic ships" from around the world, after the Environment Agency (EA) gave permission for the contaminated French aircraft carrier "Clemenceau" to be break down.
The Clemenceau, whose income had been forbidden to dams in India, Turkey and Greece, will be towed to Hartlepool on Teesside this week, after the EA approved the scrapping of many contaminated ships in a site specially built for this purpose’ (see) in spite of local manifestations against this (see also) The ships use to be send to inadequate places with non prepared and non protected workers (women and children exposed as well) in India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, to be break down. Their several elements and materials are sold for re-use through a large chain of informal trade, leaving the many contaminants involved (oil, asbestos, heavy metals, PCBs, etc) in local coasts.
